Where Baton went
Baton was the public name of the protocol Sworn implements. On 2026-09-16
the change that retired the name
merged into Sworn. The package named after it, which holds plans, contracts,
receipts, state and record actions, became internal/protocol and its action
names followed: protocol.merge is now the merge action. The same change
gave two roles their current names: the Lead, who reviews designs, and the
Principal, the accountable human.
The protocol now ships inside Sworn. Sworn embeds its own Planner, Implementer, Lead and Verifier role assets, and part of that material is re-worded from the retired protocol. Building or running Sworn needs no separate protocol product installed, released or certified. The README calls the old protocol design heritage, not a product Sworn depends on. Records written under the old vocabulary are not migrated, but Sworn can still read receipts written before the rename.
